Alma Neira, Principal

I am honored to introduce myself as the principal of Colonial Hills Elementary!

I was born and raised in Laredo, Texas where I graduated from United High School in 2002. I graduated magna cum laude from UTSA in 2008, with a Bachelors in Bilingual Education, and obtained my Masters degree in School Leadership from Lamar University in 2013.

I have 20 years of experience in education. My first experience in public education was at Camelot Elementary as a special education paraprofessional. Once I obtained my degree, I was hired as a bilingual teacher in Judson ISD where I taught kindergarten, 1st, and 4th grade. During my teaching experience, I taught at Crestview Elementary, a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School with an exceptional belief in perseverance and teamwork. I learned and grew so much from all these amazing experiences.

In 2018, I had the honor of being selected as the assistant principal for Wortham Oaks Elementary, a brand-new elementary school. This is also where I started by principalship. Having the experience of opening a campus and establishing a strong foundation of beliefs and core values has been invaluable in my growth as a leader.

My most recent experience before joining the NEISD family was successfully turning around a campus. That experience reinforced my belief that lasting improvement comes from building strong relationships, establishing clear systems, and maintaining high expectations for every student and staff member.

I am coming to this role empowered by my past, humbled by the challenges, and ready to implement the systems this community deserves.

The Title IX Coordinator/Campus Behavior Coordinator is primarily responsible for maintaining student discipline and the implementation of this subchapter and for responding to all complaints of possible sex discrimination and coordinating proper responses to complaints.

Mrs. Tatiana Huang, Assistant Principal

I am honored to serve as the Assistant Principal at Colonial Hills Elementary School. With more than 15 years of experience in education, I have served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles, including classroom teacher, Grade Level Chair, Committee Chair, and Library Innovation & Engagement Lead. These experiences have strengthened my passion for supporting students, staff, and families.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from UTSA and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M International University. My educational background and leadership experiences have prepared me to support high-quality instruction and create a positive and successful learning environment for all students.

Outside of school, I am a proud mother of four daughters. As both an educator and a parent, I understand the importance of creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where every child feels valued and has the opportunity to succeed.

It is a privilege to be part of the Colonial Hills community, and I look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with our students, families, staff, and community.
